PLN

Reflect on how your personal learning network has changed and grown during the course of this workshop. Discuss your plans for how you plan to continue to grow your learning network and how you hope to contribute to the professional learning of your administrative colleagues.

When I began this course, my PLN consisted of email and verbal collaboration among my colleagues. Through this course, I have learned so much about Web 2.0 tools. This course has really enlightened me regarding technology that I had heard about, but had never used. Twitter for example, is a tool that I plan to use to expland my PLN. I did not have a Twitter account prior to taking this course. I am so glad I took this course because Twitter is an amazing tool!!

Before this course, I had visited blogs but had never really thought about how to use them to my advantage professionally. In the future, I plan to maintain a classroom blog to stay in current contact with parents about events in the classroom. When I become an administrator, I think it would be useful to use the blog format for communication with staff as opposed to a daily email message. In addition, a blog would be extrememly useful to collaborate and share information with other administrators.
As the RtI chair at my school, I am already planning to start an RtI blog at the beginning of next year to help guide teachers through the process. Teachers have so many questions about RtI and PBIS, and I believe a blog would be a useful tool to help ease anxiety and concern for unsure teachers.

Podcasting is another tool that I think will be useful as an administrator. Prior to this course, I had not considered the possibility of using a podcast in the place of a faculty meeting. I believe podcasting would be a useful tool when conveying important information to a busy faculty. In addition, my school has a fairly large Hispanic population. Many of these parents can understand the spoken word but not the written word. Podcasting would be very useful when attempting to communicate with this particular demographic.

I am so glad I took this course. I feel that my knowledge of technology has expanded greatly as a result of exploring the various Web 2.0 tools explored in this course.

How I would use blogs as an administrator...

As an administrator, I would enjoy reading the blogs of other administrators to gain unseful insight. I would read these blogs for a variety of reasons. Some are fun to read just to get ideas about how to handle situations or implement things in the school setting. Other blogs are more educational as far as keeping one abreast of current trends and best practices. Blogs are a useful and addictive tool!
